How Grillz Mold Kits Work (And How to Get a Perfect Impression at Home)
Custom grillz are only as good as the mold they’re built on. It’s why we don’t sell one-size-fits-all pieces, and why every order starts with our $40 mold kit shipped to your door. Here’s how the whole process works.
What’s In the Kit
Your kit arrives with dental impression trays, professional-grade molding putty, and step-by-step instructions. It’s the same type of impression material used in dental offices – not craft-store putty.
How Taking an Impression Works
You mix the putty, load it into the tray, and bite down evenly – holding still while the material sets around your teeth. The whole thing takes about ten minutes, and the detailed walkthrough is on our mold kit instructions page.
Tips for a Perfect Impression the First Time
- Read the instructions completely before you start – the putty sets on its own schedule, not yours.
- Don’t rush the mix. Uneven mixing is the #1 cause of soft spots in the mold.
- Bite straight down and hold still. Shifting mid-set blurs the tooth detail we build from.
- Check your result. You should see clean, sharp tooth impressions with no big air bubbles on the teeth you want covered.
- Snap a photo before you ship it. You can submit a photo of your mold and we’ll confirm it’s good before you mail it.
What Happens After You Mail It Back
Once your mold arrives at the shop, we build your piece directly on a cast of your teeth – that’s what makes the fit exact. Most orders ship within 2-3 business days after we receive your mold. If the fit isn’t right when it arrives, we remake it free within 7 days of delivery.
In St. Louis? Skip the Kit
