Part 1 — Taking Your Mold Impression
Check what’s in the kit
Your kit includes two putty jars (one blue, one white), two mouth trays (upper and lower), and an instruction card. Make sure you have everything before you start. Only use the tray size that matches the teeth you’re ordering — upper, lower, or both.
Mix the putties
Remove one portion of blue putty and one of white from their jars. Place both in your palm and knead them together like Play-Doh. Mix firmly and continuously for 30–45 seconds until you have a single, completely uniform color with no streaks. Move quickly — once mixed, you have about 2 minutes before it sets.
Load the tray
Press the mixed putty evenly into the mouth tray. Fill it all the way to the walls and smooth it out with your finger so the surface is level. The putty should slightly overfill the tray — your teeth will compress it into shape.
Take the impression
Open your mouth as wide as you comfortably can. Center the loaded tray over your teeth so your teeth land in the middle of the putty — not too close to the front or back walls of the tray. Bite down firmly and evenly. Hold completely still for 3 full minutes without chewing, talking, or moving your jaw.
Remove the tray
Once the putty has fully set (it will feel firm, not sticky), gently rock the tray side to side to break the suction. Then carefully lift it out of your mouth. Do not pull straight forward — rocking releases it cleanly without distorting the impression.
Check and mail it back
Hold the tray up to the light and inspect it. You should see deep, sharp, clean impressions of every tooth. If the impression looks unclear, shallow, or has air bubbles, do not send it — contact us for a replacement kit. Mail the tray back in the prepaid envelope within 24 hours for the best results.
Things that ruin your mold
- Eating or drinking within 30 minutes before taking the impression
- Rushing the putty mix — streaks = uneven set = bad impression
- Moving your jaw or talking while the putty sets
- Pulling the tray straight out instead of rocking it
- Waiting more than a few hours to mail the impression back
Pro tip
If you’re nervous about getting it right, a dentist can take the impression for you using the tray from the kit. Just ask for a standard alginate impression — they’ll know what to do. It’ll produce an even more precise fit.
Part 2 — Wearing Your Grillz
Brush and rinse first
Always brush your teeth and rinse your mouth before putting your grillz on. A clean mouth means no food particles trapped between the gold and your enamel, which prevents bacteria buildup and keeps both your teeth and your grillz in better condition.
Hold at the edges
Pick up the grillz by holding the sides — not the front face. This keeps fingerprints and oils off the visible gold surface and gives you better control when positioning them.
Line up and press
Hold the grillz in front of the correct teeth and gently press inward. They should glide onto your teeth and snap into place with light, even pressure. You’ll feel them seat when they’re properly in — a slight click or resistance means they’ve locked onto the tooth contours from your mold.
Never force them
If they don’t go on smoothly, stop. Forcing grillz can bend the gold or scratch your teeth. Check that you have the correct piece (top vs. bottom), make sure your teeth are dry, and try again with gentle pressure. If the fit has changed, contact us.
While wearing your grillz — never do this
- Eat food — chewing can bend or crack the metal and trap debris
- Drink anything except water — sugary or acidic drinks get trapped under the gold
- Sleep in them — overnight wear causes bacteria buildup and enamel damage
- Smoke or vape while wearing them — residue stains the gold
Part 3 — Removing Your Grillz
Use your tongue first
Press the back of the grillz with your tongue from the inside. This breaks the suction against your teeth and loosens the piece enough to grab.
Pop off from the back
Use a fingernail to gently push the grillz outward from behind the back molars. Work one side at a time — once one side releases, the other follows easily.
Don’t pull from the front
Never grab the front of the grillz and yank forward. This puts stress on the metal and can warp the shape over time. Always release from the back first, then the piece comes off naturally.
Part 4 — Cleaning Your Grillz
Rinse immediately after removing
As soon as you take your grillz off, rinse them under warm (not hot) running water. This washes away saliva and any residue before it dries and becomes harder to remove.
Scrub with mild soap
Put a small drop of mild dish soap onto a soft-bristle toothbrush. Gently scrub all surfaces — front, back, inside contours, and between any diamond settings. Use light pressure in small circular motions. This is all you need for a thorough clean.
Rinse and dry
Rinse thoroughly under warm water until all soap is gone. Pat completely dry with a soft lint-free cloth. Never put grillz away wet — moisture trapped in the case promotes tarnish and bacteria.
Never use these on your grillz
- Toothpaste — it’s abrasive and will scratch solid gold
- Baking soda or salt scrubs — same issue
- Bleach, hydrogen peroxide, or household cleaners
- Ultrasonic jewelry cleaners — can loosen diamond settings
- Hot water — can warp the fit of your custom piece
- Chlorinated water — pools and hot tubs damage gold over time
Part 5 — Storing Your Grillz
Always use the provided case
Your grillz come with a protective case. Use it every time. The case keeps your piece from getting scratched, bent, or lost. If you travel, keep the case in a secure interior pocket — not loose in a bag.
Keep away from heat and direct sunlight
Extreme heat — like a car dashboard in summer — can warp a custom-fitted piece. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, radiators, or any heat source.
Don’t wrap in paper or tissue
Paper towels and tissues look harmless but have enough texture to micro-scratch gold over time. They also absorb moisture and hold it against the metal. Stick to the case and a soft cloth.
Clean before storing, every time
Never put grillz away dirty. Even a small amount of saliva residue left overnight encourages bacteria growth and can cause tarnishing. The 2-minute rinse-and-dry routine after every wear is the single most important thing you can do to maintain your piece long-term.
