How to Clean Your Grillz (Without Ruining Them)
A solid gold grill can look shop-new for years – if you treat it right. Here’s the exact care routine we tell every customer at the shop, plus the mistakes we see ruin good pieces.
The Daily Routine (30 Seconds)
After you take your grillz out, rinse them under warm – not hot – water and pat them dry with a soft cloth before they go in the case. That’s it. This one habit prevents most buildup before it starts.
The Deep Clean (Once a Week or as Needed)
- Mix warm water with a couple drops of mild dish soap.
- Let your grillz soak for a few minutes.
- Go over them gently with a soft-bristle toothbrush – inside and out, especially along the gum-line edge.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry completely with a soft cloth before storing.
What NOT to Use
- Toothpaste. It’s abrasive – it micro-scratches polished gold and dulls mirror finishes over time.
- Jewelry dips and harsh chemicals. Especially risky on pieces with stones or two-tone finishes.
- Boiling water. Heat can stress set stones.
- Hard brushes or scouring pads. Soft bristles only.
Metal-Specific Notes
Solid gold (all our gold pieces are solid 10K-18K, never plated) doesn’t tarnish – it just collects buildup, so soap and water is all it needs. Silver naturally tarnishes over time; a silver polishing cloth brings the shine right back. Iced-out pieces need a lighter touch around the settings – brush along the stones, not against them, and never use chemical dips.
Storage Matters as Much as Cleaning
Dry completely, then store in the case. Moisture trapped in a closed case is how silver tarnishes fast and buildup hardens. Keep the case in your pocket or bag – not loose with keys and coins that scratch.
A Note on Wearing Them
Take your grillz out to eat and sleep. Food buildup is the main reason pieces need deep cleaning, and your piece (and your teeth) will thank you.
